Battle of Hubbardton 2024

Hello Everyone:

I wanted to share a recap of the recent event at the Hubbardton Battlefield in Vermont.

It was hot.  I shall say again, it was hot.  The troops marched out on Saturday afternoon and just as the battle began it started to rain.  A few muskets fired and the soldiers then returned to camp. Wet coats provided some relief from the heat.

After the evening meal the 1st NH was invited to the celebration of the 50th anniversary of Whitcomb’s Rangers.  There was ample good food and drink along with entertainment of wrestling matches and singing into the night.  A good time was had by all.

Sunday’s battle was at 8 am and the weather was cooler.  Our new members, Lincoln, Luke, and Ron got their first taste of a battle.  You could see their excitement as they returned to camp.  Prior to the battle Captain Timmerman was interviewed by WCAX TV from Burlington.  He shared his thoughts about reenacting and Hubbardton.  The link is below for your viewing..

Deb Batten coordinated the commissary and we enjoyed good meals including cool lunches with fruit and vegetables, and grilled corn on the cob and hamburgers for Saturday evening..  All pitched in and helped with the meals and chores around camp and camp life went smoothly.

We had some rain, but no mud this year.  It was hot, but the evenings and sleeping were comfortable.  The battle on Sunday was fun and inspiring.  It was also good to catch up with old friends and meet new ones.

Thank you to all who attended Hubbardton this year.  A good time was had by all.

Your most humble obedient servant,

Bruce Batten

Interim Adjutant
